Wood Turner
I have enjoyed wood turning from the first day l picked up a chisel and with that experience I very much enjoy teaching the craft. Teaching wood turning has given me the chance to meet such a cross section of interesting people, from an international air cargo owner, retired police officer to a British harbour pilot at Dover, plus I taught wood turning at HM Prison in Kent, which l found so rewarding .
I have three lathes, two of which have swivel heads, this method is very useful for the students when turning a bowl. the third lathe is the original lathe l taught myself wood turning and is still a favourite with the students.
The courses cover the use of the chucking systems, spindle work, bowl turning and hollow work with reference to the skew chisel, sharpening is also incorporated, Which I think is paramount. All creating a relaxed environment, but with safety practice in place.
I teach students with not having any experience to several years turning, all on a one to one basis. Students may bring their own chisels etc if they prefer, but a large cross section of chisels are at hand. My workshop is on the Borde Hill estate in West Sussex
The day normally starts at 9,00/ 9.30am depending on travelling and finishing time at 4.30pm.
Lunch is at 1.00pm with freshly bought sandwiches to the individual's choice, plus tea and coffee. All wood, abrasives and polishes are supplied on the day, but if a larger piece of wood is required that will be charged at cost. The fee for a days tuition is £140.00.
To book, either email or phone, see contact for details. I also have a brochure which can be sent or emailed. The following work was made by students during their wood turning courses.
